He wants a promotion in his Manhattan Insurance office, and Mr. Sheldrake of personnel is oblivious to him. Chuck soon discovers what other people consider his only asset: his apartment. Promises are made, including promotion, marriages are broken, and new loves arise. Chuck eventuallly decides to be his own man and to get away from what his life is in Manhattan, but something stops him just as he is about to leave.
